1 – You’ll know you get to see the “must sees”

With an escorted tour, not only do you usually have priority entry into the most desired sites, but when you finish experiencing that location, you will then be whisked to the next site without worrying about transportation or maps.   Sometimes, the tour has exclusive access to areas of the site that the general population does not get to see.

2 – The time you save

Literally every moment needs to be planned.  The plan might be hang around the hotel pool that day, but you need to figure out the hotel, food, transportation, attractions to visit, the days they’re closed needs to be considered, budget, how long it takes to get from one attraction to the next, one city to the next, just from the hotel to what you want to see that day.  It can take as many man hours as the vacation itself to put all of this together.  Let someone else handle that.  Tours come in all styles, ranging from discount to luxury, so that you just decide what travel style you wish and someone else does all the work.

3 – Making new friends

Spending time traveling with people can be the start of lifetime friendships that you simply can’t develop traveling independently.  Sharing the experiences with the people you are touring with becomes part of the fun.

4 – More for your money

This is just math.  If the tour companies are escorting travelers through these cities constantly, they get price breaks on hotels, restaurants, shows and other details of the experience that independent travelers couldn’t hope to receive.  This is a buy in bulk kind of situation.  It allows tour companies to pass the added value to their clients and enrich their clients’ experience at a lower cost than the client could do for themselves.

5 – Language barriers dissipate

It is a massive relief to be escorted through a strange land with someone that speaks English and knows the territory.  Street signs, even in English speaking countries, can be confusing and I really don’t want to tell you how long it took me once to explain that I needed a hairbrush to a shop keeper in Paris.  I do not speak French, and she was very patient, but why go through that?

6 – Security

You will be a stranger in a strange land and while nothing is totally safe, it is much safer to travel with a guide who knows what areas to avoid and what the customs are.  On a tour, you never have to worry about the hotel being overbooked, or what to do if something important to you is lost.  It’s not as though they can magically make the item appear, but at least you have someone working for you that knows how to go about replacing or retrieving the item.

7 – Having everything handled by professionals

Being taken care of by someone that travels this itinerary year round, often for decades, makes a big difference in the overall experience.  The details are taken care of for you and tour companies know how to get you to all the major sites, include some free time and not have you needing a vacation from your vacation.

After taking a guided vacation with a professional tour company, you may feel comfortable enough to tackle it independently another time, but for many locations, there is no introduction to a new place like having someone take care of everything for you.
